Julian Lee of Freehold was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree armed robbery and several weapons charges, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said on Friday.
The unidentified victim, 28, from Holmdel was shot and stabbed on Monday night, Gramiccioni said.
Holmdel Township police were called to Holmdel Road at 10:40 p.m. in response to multiple 9-1-1 calls on a report of an injured man, the prosecutor said.
A Good Samaritan had taken the seriously injured man to an area hospital. The victim was treated for injuries from apparent gunshot and stabbing wounds, Gramiccioni said.
Lee was identified as the attacker, he said.
On Thursday, detectives found Lee in Atlantic City, where he was taken into custody, the prosecutor said.
Gramiccioni and Holmdel Township Police Department Chief John Mioduszewski wanted to assure local residents that this attack was quickly determined to be an isolated incident and there was never a direct threat to the community.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Holmdel police were assisted by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, Hazlet Township Police Department, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and New Jersey State Police Gaming Commission, they said.
Anyone with any information about the armed robbery is urged to call Detective Christopher Guy of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443 or Detective Eric Hernando of the Holmdel Township Police Department at 732-946-4400.
Lee was being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold pending a court appearance.
Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin Sidley is handling the case.
